Like all small towns in America, many young men and women of Independence have served gallantly in the armed forces, helping to keep America strong and free.  At the Veteran's Memorial Museum located at Independence High School, hundreds of stories of these servicemen and women have been preserved.  Established through volunteer efforts in 2000, the Veteran's Memorial Museum consists of display cases of artifacts dating from the Civil War as well as an entire hallway -" the Hallway of Heroes" containing photographs and biographies, all directly related to the veterans of the Independence area.

Phoneco has been in business for over 33 yrs.  We have a large accumulation of old telephones, parts and related items. The unusual items end up in a room, that we call a museum. Here you will see a Telegraph display, candlestick phone display, (2 of which are connected for visitors to ring and talk on), also 2 wood wall phones connected so one can ring up their old ring number and talk to their neighbor. We have a history of the Galesville switchboard and operator. Many pictures and memorabilia are also on display. Visitors are welcome to browse the plant where we restore the phones. Wood wall phones, payphones, Bakelite’s and more are available to see.  If visitors would like a tour; just ask and we will be glad to oblige.
