Beach Corner
Beach Corner is a tiny burg with lots of community spirit and history! It is located at the junction of County Road C and Highway 53. In 1902, Thosten Herried, purchased land from Charles Beach and this land has been divided many times until Beach Corners now boasts of a population of about thirty people. Homes and businesses make up the community.
In 1870, Charles Beach, realizing that his children needed to be educated, donated a strip of his farm to be used for a school. A second, more substantial school was built on the property in 1909, and is now owned and preserved by the “Beach Community Club.” The School currently houses the Beach Corners Arts Studios and Gift Gallery and continues its educational tradition with classes in arts and crafts and events to foster appreciation for the arts.
In 1922 Knudt Lynghamer bought land and built the Beach Store and filling station. The store has had several owners and now houses Christa’s Yarn Shop, where people from all over several states come to get knitting supplies.
There was also a dance hall built in 1925 (destroyed by fire in 1942) where an evening of fun cost $.25. In the early 30’s at the time the new road was being built on Highway 53 from Beaches to Blair, the Beach Tavern was built. It continues today as a popular “feeding and watering” place for locals and passers-by.
Support the Community Club during July, when it sponsors “Beach Days,” a fund-raiser to help restore and maintain the school, and once again on opening day of deer hunting season, for the traditional early morning hunters' breakfast, and the all day craft fair for “hunters widows”: “Christmas at the Beach.”
