The
nation’s largest connected bicycle trail system.
382 miles of paved county back roads, 11 cities and
villages connect to form a network of 14 loop
options. The county’s back roads have very low
vehicle traffic, typically only 3 cars per hour.
Hundreds of friendly area residents offer assistance
to bicyclist enroute. These trail stewards are
designated by blue bicycle signs posted at the
roadside. This non-glaciated region along the
Mississippi river is ideal for family and sport road
bicyclists. A pocket size brochure details the 14
loops, elevations, and descriptions of each of the
rides. For a brochure please sign our guest book at
the top of the homepage, or go to
www.ridebctc.com for more information and
downloadable maps. |

Buffalo River State Trail |
 |
|
|
|
This trail in west-central Wisconsin follows
the scenic Buffalo River valley for 36.4
miles between Mondovi and Fairchild. In
Trempealeau County the trail may be accessed
in Eleva, Strum, or Osseo.
The river, which lends its name to the
trail, was named by early French explorers.
They called it
Riviere de
Beeufs for the many bison that
once inhabited the area. The trail is built
on a former railroad corridor and passes by
farmlands, woods, hills and wetlands.
The trail surface is a combination of
railroad ballast and limestone screenings,
and is therefore used for walking, mountain
biking, snowmobiling, horseback riding, and
all terrain vehicle use. |
